5 Best Audiology Clinics in Halifax That Will Make You Stop Saying “What?”

audiologist-halifax
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

I have a friend who started missing all our jokes during our weekend hangouts, and it wasn’t because they were bad (well, maybe some of them). Turns out, he was missing more than punchlines—he was having trouble with his hearing.

After a bit of friendly teasing and nudging, we convinced him to see an audiologist. I went ahead and helped him find the right clinic in Halifax he could go to.

After a couple of appointments, not only did he get fitted with some sleek healing aids, but now he’s the first to laugh at every joke (even the lame ones).

Lucky for us, Halifax has some fantastic audiologists who can really make a difference. Let’s take a look at some of the best professionals who will have you, or your friends, tuned into the world around you again.

How much do audiologists charge in Halifax?

The fees for audiologists start at $100 for a thorough hearing evaluation. More advanced services, such as hearing aids, can range from $1,000 to $4,000 depending on the type and features.
The pricing can vary significantly based on the specific services required and the expertise of the audiologist.
For those looking for particular auditor devices or specialized tests, costs can also differ greatly.

How We Chose the Best Audiologists in Halifax

Credentials and Education: We verified each audiologist’s academic background and confirmed their degrees against the academic institution’s alumni listings.
Licensing and Certification: We looked for their professional licensing information on the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Nova Scotia (CASLPNS) website and cross-checked certifications with the respective accrediting organizations.
Years of Experience: We assessed the audiologist’s experience based on the detailed career history provided on their professional profile.
Specializations: We reviewed the list of services offered in their practice and checked for any additional certifications or continuing education courses in their areas of specialization.
Up-to-Date Techniques and Equipment: We contacted the clinics directly to inquire about the equipment and techniques they use, validating this against current industry standards in audiological care.
Pricing Transparency: We requested a list of services and prices from each clinic, comparing them to ensure they provide clear and fair pricing information without hidden costs.
Insurance and Payment Options: We checked the audiologist’s insurance partnerships and payment options and followed up with a phone call to the clinic to confirm the details.
Accessibility and Location: We made use of online maps and transit websites to determine the ease of reaching each clinic.

A standout offering is their FREE hearing testing for adults, making it easier for more people to assess their hearing health without financial concerns.

Clayton Park Audiology and Hearing Aid Centre offers hearing tests for both adults and kids over 4. They use equipment from known brands like Oticon to make sure you get the best care.

The audiologists here, like Dr. Diana Fennell and Dr. Elaine Hayward, are highly experienced and genuinely care about each patient. They’ll walk you through the entire hearing test process—from your medical history to different types of audiometry tests and middle ear assessments.

If there’s a need for treatment, options could include hearing aids, custom hearing protection, or tinnitus management. They even recommend bringing a communication partner to every appointment, which shows how much they value family-centered care.

A mother we spoke to was relieved to be beside her son throughout his hearing test and appreciated the considerate attention.

One thing to note, though—they don’t direct-bill private insurance. This means you’d need to pay upfront and then seek reimbursement from your insurance provider.

Pros

  • Detailed hearing assessments
  • Uses the latest equipment
  • Experienced audiologists
  • Comprehensive process
  • Offers multiple treatment options
  • Family-centered care

Cons

    Terrific experience
I recently had a hearing assessment at Clayton Park Audiology and the whole experience was excellent. The receptionist was extremely friendly and the waiting area was modern and welcoming. There is a ton of parking outside the clinic. The test was thorough and actually kind of fun. Lindsay, the owner and audiologist explained the results in great detail and it was super interesting. She had a Dalhousie University student with her doing a co-op placement and Lindsay let her conduct some tests under her guidance. She was excellent -Very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions with ease. She described each test concisely. Clearly she is learning from the best! The whole experience was terrific right from the booking to the appointment. I had a hearing test done somewhere else in Halifax and it was not as in depth nor as pleasant as this one. I highly recommend Clayton Park Audiology to anyone with hearing issues. In fact, I already have! Paul F

    Well run business

I’m very happy with my choice of Clayton Park Audiology. After being a client at a big chain of audiology clinics, I find the experience of dealing with an audiologist who is also the owner of her business both refreshing and of great benefits. Lyndsay uses all the modern equipment and best practices to get the maximum out of my hearing aids. In the initial consultation appointment we landed on hearing aids that were right for me, even if I came in with a strong bias (the marketing of some hearing aid companies is really good) I ended up going with another brand and I know it was the right choice. After the first fitting I’m already impressed with the performance of my new hearing devices and we’re only at 80%. I can’t wait to hear what 100% will sound like because I already hear better than I even did with a hearing device. I would also like to mention Ashley who makes dealing with online scheduling, questionnaire, administration, very, very easy. All around well run business.

    Informative and productive
My visit with audiologist Simon Pawlowski was both informative and productive. The atmosphere was clean, comfortable and non-clinical. I learned why I found noisy social situations so irritating, and fatiguing. I’m looking forward to my trial-run hearing aids.

    Expert professionalism
Amazing!!! I had asked around with some professionals who the best audiologist in HRM or NS might be (I was willing to travel). I have a rarer form of hereditary sensorineural hearing loss so wanted someone with a high degree of expertise. I was instantly told Dr. Jamie Coolen hands down was my guy. (He has a doctorate in audiology). I wasn’t disappointed! Dr. Coolen treated my mother and I like he would a member of his own family; with empathy, care, and expert professionalism. Please look no further, do yourself a favour, and just go in and see him. I have been to many audiologists and you won’t get better care elsewhere. Thank you Jamie for being the best at what you do! We (my mom and I) are lifelong clients now. We can’t thank you enough. We now have the hearing of Secret Service agents and the best followup care possible LOL. Christine was amazing too and very sweet – thank you!

    Patient, pleasant, and knowledgeable
I had my hearing tested by Eldon Leblanc. Eldon and his staff are very patient, pleasant and knowledgeable and he remembered me from many years ago when my sister Pam and I used to visit with Mom when she was alive! My hearing test was free, and they had a promotion to receive a $10 Tim Horton’s card for every person you refer here! If I could give them more than a 5, I would! Thank you.

    Highly professional and caring
Went for a hearing test and was very impressed by Eldon LeBlanc. Very professional and thorough, you could see that he cared and treated you as a person and not just another client. He was very patient and gives you clear and accurate information and advice. Would highly recommend anyone with any hearing issues to go see him.

    Latest technology & huge difference
My family and friends are aware that I have had trouble with hearing loss now for quite a few years. My hearing loss has mostly affected my ability to hear high frequency sounds which are needed to hear speech clearly and to enjoy sounds, such as birds singing, the sound of crickets, or sound of treble in music, which I have not heard or heard clearly for years. Thanks to my son, Cole Crouse and his staff at Provincial Hearing for fitting me with hearing devices that really made a huge difference. The Signia Styletto Connect 7 are the latest technology that links directly to my IPhone. I have preprogrammed settings for different listening situations, can change volume if required, answer phone calls directly to the hearing devices, stream music, and I know other things I haven’t figured out yet. The slim design is very comfortable and really not noticeable. I also want to point out that I drive a motorcycle, comfort with the devices is not an issue, and I am able to access google maps on my phone which streams directly to my hearing devices. There are also no batteries to change. They simply charge overnight in a charging dock. These are not my first hearing devices, and likely won’t be my last, but I wanted to post some information that could possibly help other people. I am very happy with the quality and performance of these particular hearing devices. They take some getting used too, like getting a new pair of glasses, there is an adjustment period. It takes your brain some time to adjust to the sounds it hasn’t recognized for a long time.

    Superior detailed analysis
What a pleasant experience with knowledgeable staff! I was professionally guided through the hearing evaluation process and found most satisfying  the detailed analysis of my results. As a military member who has been exposed to hearing hazards for most of my career I found the level detail with regard to my test results and the communication of those results was far superior then I have ever experienced. Keep up the good work!
