When my friend started his first job, he found himself deep in workplace drama that you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy. It was like a soap opera, but with more paperwork and less fun.
Thankfully, Halifax has some amazing employment lawyers who are basically superheroes in suits. They step in, handle the tough stuff, and make sure you don’t get stuck in an endless loop of HR headaches.
Whether you’re facing an unfair dismissal, dealing with discrimination, or just need help making sense of confusing contract clauses, these lawyers have your back.
In this guide, I’ll introduce you to the top employment lawyers in Halifax who can help you avoid those workplace nightmares. Let’s meet the legal experts who can turn your work life from a disastrous sitcom into a smooth success story.
How much do employment lawyers charge in Halifax?
Employment lawyers in Halifax charge fees that can begin at around $250 per hour and escalate to $500 per hour for more intricate cases.
These services include but aren’t limited to handling wrongful dismissal claims, workplace harassment issues, and contract disputes. The pricing generally varies significantly based on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience.
For straightforward matters, some lawyers might offer a contingency fee arrangement where you only pay if you win, with fees usually ranging from 25% to 40% of the compensation awarded.

They prioritize accessibility, often holding meetings via video conference, phone, or in person based on your convenience.
One potential drawback might be that their services, while thorough, can get quite detailed. This could be overwhelming if you are looking for a quicker resolution.
Outstanding and supportive professionalism
I recently had a meeting with Tandiwe regarding a work place issue. The meeting was outstanding. She was engaged and supportive. Considerate and knowledgeable. She was extremely polite and treated me very respectfully. She listened intently to my story and then had several recommendations about what the best way to move forward would be. She knew exactly what the best and smartest way forward was. She was open and honest and treated me like a person who had been through a poor experience. If you are not sure who to go to if you are experiencing a poor workplace, I can not recommend speaking to Tandiwe enough. You will be treated with dignity and will be presented with the best way forward. I appreciated just how easy is was to talk to her and felt a connection almost immediately. The meeting was well worth my time and money and helped me get some closure related to my own personal story. She is definitely a 10/10. Thank you so much for your support. I was looking on the internet for a law firm to ask some questions about a problem I has been dealing with so I called Teryl Scott Lawyers Inc. It was near closing time when I called and one of the Executive Assistants, Kaylah Jensen, answered the phone. Wow. I can’t even start to tell you how helpful and respectful she was. She listened to my general concern and knew exactly where to direct me. She even helped me set up an appointment for the very next day. She was pleasant and kind. It was without a doubt the most I impressed I have ever been with someone when I have called an office. She helped me get everything set up and it was well beyond the end of her day by the time we were done. Thank you so much. The next day, just a couple of hours before my appointment, I had to change from in-person to virtual. When I called the office to make this request, I was lucky enough that she answered Again, she was super pleasant and made the change for me with no issues. I can’t stress enough what an asset I believe she is to this organization. If I ever open some sort of business, I will certainly think of trying to steal her away. She is just what you need as the face of your organization. Thank you, Kaylah. I will not forget how well I was treated by you in this case and by the organization as a whole.

Following Lisa’s advice, I was able to successfully negotiate the terms of my new contract, resulting in a much better outcome than I had originally expected. I am extremely grateful for her guidance and support throughout the process. I would highly recommend Lisa and Teryl Scott Lawyers Inc. to anyone seeking legal advice on employment matters.

A former client mentioned to us that the firm played a crucial role in securing the compensation she deserved after years of service to her company. She highlighted how the office was always ready to step in and advocate for her rights.
One of the standout aspects of their service is the personal approach. They offer one-on-one consultations to discuss your circumstances comprehensively and provide tailored advice.
Bear in mind, though, their specialized focus on detailed employment law might mean higher fees compared to more general law firms, so it’s worth considering your budget if cost is a big factor for you.

Received professional advice after a thorough conversation. Even thought I didn’t pursue the case, I felt well served by this firm.

3. Resolute Legal Disability Lawyers

Address: 1969 Upper Water St Suite 201, Halifax, NS B3J 3R7
Phone: +1 902-800-8336
Business hours:

Resolute Legal Disability Lawyers has built a solid reputation for guiding Canadian workers through the complexities of employment disputes and disability claims.
For issues like wrongful termination, workplace harassment, or severance pay, their team is well-equipped to provide the necessary support.
We appreciate how they focus exclusively on workers, which means they have tailored expertise in employment disputes and disability claims, including CPP disability and workers’ compensation.
They also stand out with their commitment to education. They offer free consultations to understand your situation better and determine if they’re the right fit for your needs.
Plus, they have a “Fair Fee Guarantee” and a “Satisfaction Guarantee” to alleviate concerns about costs and commitment.
One possible downside is their high demand and limited availability. As specialists in employment and disability law, they may have longer wait times for appointments, which could be an issue if you require urgent legal assistance.
Organized and informative legal support
Recently I had my Longterm Disability Claim denied by the insurance company after they had initially accepted responsibility according to the terms of the policy. I thought I had a very good case but also knew nothing about the disability insurance industry and all it nuances. I therefore decided to get legal counsel and after an evaluation of several options decided to hire Resolute Legal and David Brannen. The Resolute Legal team was very organized with all aspects of my case and also provided me with great literature and other resource materials. I trusted their approach to filing my appeal and they never under or over sold the likelihood of success or failure. It was very comforting that they always kept me informed during the long, tedious and difficult appeal process. I was confident in their approach to the appeal as it was always based on fact presented in a sound legal manner, and with a plan. Ultimately the appeal was successful with the best possible outcome for me. I would not hesitate to recommend David Brannen and Resolute Legal to represent the “little guy” in a dispute with a Disability Insurance Company. Dr. Kim Mailman

Comprehensive educational materials
I was very impressed with the educational materials that were sent before I hired them. The materials answered every question I had, and I had a lot. Once hired, of course all of that was laid out and reviewed again. If you read all of the materials it explains that they won’t take your case if they don’t think they can win it — which makes sense because they wouldn’t get paid. Therefore you just have to be content trusting that fact. My lawyer was Katie Conrad and she listened patiently as I over explained my situation. To her extreme credit, she never made me feel rushed or as if my questions were irrelevant. She was always completely professional, but almost too much so because no matter how many times I asked her if it was my appeal was approved yet, she always gave me the same answer. (That always worked on my parents. Lol). Kidding aside, I did find Katie to be very hard to read in the beginning but my emails and phone calls were always returned within 24 hours, every question was answered and she was very open to hearing any ideas or thoughts I had. My only complaint is that this even had to happen in the first place; so all things considered, there is nothing more they could have done. The months before I hired Resolute Legal I was barely averaging 2 hours sleep a night. If not for Dave, Katie and their admin, I would still not be sleeping through the night. The only thing I would actually do differently is I would hire them sooner. Thank you Katie. Thank you Dave. I hope I won’t need you soon, but if I do, I know that I would be in good hands.

Phone: +1 902-445-5511
Business hours:
- Monday to Friday – 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Burchell MacDougall LLP provides a wide range of services for both employers and employees. Their team excels in creating employment contracts, negotiating severance packages, and helping with dismissals.
What really sets them apart is their caring approach combined with strong advocacy. Whether you need help with non-solicitation and non-competition agreements or dealing with workplace discrimination, they can handle these sensitive issues with expertise.
They also support unionized employers with various labor issues, including union certification and grievance arbitration.
Not only that, they represent clients before tribunals like the Nova Scotia Labour Board and the Human Rights Commission. Their hands-on approach ensures that clients get personal attention all through their case.
One potential downside could be that, because they offer such a wide range of services across different areas of law, their resources might be spread out. This might mean they don’t have the hyper-focus some clients look for in a specialized employment law firm.
Highly professional and responsive
Great experience with Patrick K. O’Neil. Very professional and Responsive. I’d recommend him over and over to any individual who is looking for a representation. Thank you.

Professional document assistance
I had difficulty finding someone to help with a document I needed to witness, and most places I contacted turned me away. When I reached out to Wilkinson Woodward’s Huddersfield branch, the lovely receptionist kindly forwarded my request to the Halifax branch, where there was availability. James at Halifax was incredibly kind, polite, and professional and was able to secure a same-day appointment for me. I’m so grateful for your help and support. Thank you so so much!
