The 5 Best Golf Coaching Services in Halifax That’ll Help You Get a Much Better Score

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

A few years ago, I was invited to go to one of the fancier golf courses in Halifax and sadly had to pass up the opportunity. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to go — I was just too embarrassed to admit that I had no idea how to play.

I still regret not going, so I figured it was time to redeem myself. I had to find an expert and get it over with once and for all. Luckily, Halifax has a couple of amazing golf coaches who have improved the swings of even the most hopeless players.

How much do golf coaching services cost in Halifax?

In Halifax, golf coaching services cost around $50 to $100 per hour. The cost depends on the experience of your coach, the duration of your meetings, and the location of your lessons, with simulators typically being cheaper than traditional courses.

How We Chose the Best Golf Coaching Services in Halifax

Tailored Coaching: We looked for instructors who tailored their services according to their clients’ age, skill level, and goals.
Tools Used: We prioritized professionals who used effective tools such as launch monitors, simulators, and grip trainers to help customers improve.
Client Experience: We chose coaches who are known for being kind, professional, and communicative with clients.
Testimonials: We asked previous clients and went through testimonials to see if they were happy with the overall instruction they received.

With over 150 acres of immaculate landscapes, Indian Lake is one of Nova Scotia’s most stunning golf courses. Loyal customers keep coming back to play on their beautiful fairways and greens.

To get to their level, you can attend lessons that use some of the most advanced technology available in the industry. Your swing would greatly benefit from their high-definition simulators and video analysis.

You can trust their main instructor, David Perry, to give you detailed explanations on what to do. He’ll know exactly what to address, given he’s worked with students of all ages and skill sets over the past 2 decades.

And although this isn’t exactly included in their coaching, we love the sense of community inside the grounds. Other players are always happy to give useful tips.

Sadly, this company does have a history of scheduling issues. People are occasionally given appointments much earlier or later than they had originally booked.

Pros

  • Spacious and stunning grounds
  • Utilizes advanced technology for lessons
  • Accepts students of all ages and skillsets
  • Instructor has 2 decades of experience
  • Kind and helpful community of players

Cons

Although putting is what they teach best, Peter Dunmore and his team offer personalized golf coaching depending on what you want to refine. Whether you want to improve your stroke or green reading skills, they’ll make it happen.

They’ve worked with a variety of players in the past, including beginners and players with handicaps. From what we’ve heard, they’re very flexible with adjusting lessons to accommodate their clients.

What really impressed us is that most people see progress within the first 3 lessons. This is mostly thanks to the numerous practice drills they ask you to do at home.

And if you have any questions or clarifications, feel free to reach out. They always do their best to respond ASAP.

Unfortunately, due to limited manpower, they don’t always have the bandwidth to accept new clients.

Pros

  • Personalized coaching
  • Works with a variety of students
  • Flexible lessons
  • Noticeable improvement within 3 lessons
  • Provides practice drills
  • Very responsive

Cons

  • Doesn’t always accept new clients

He effectively analyzed and corrected my putting mechanics

“Peter is both professional and exceptionally friendly. He effectively analyzed and corrected my putting mechanics, setting me on a path to significant improvement. I previously struggled with frequent three-putts, but now that rarely occurs. After just three lessons, I am consistently making longer putts that I once routinely missed, often resulting in tap in two-putts. He’s amazing!”

I found him both knowledgeable and approachable

“Peter has a very good knowledge of golf as well as being an excellent putting instructor. He is very flexible to the needs of his students. I found him both very knowledgeable and approachable. Not only does he provide excellent instruction but also provides numerous putting drills you can practice at home. If I had a question about my putting he was very prompt getting back to me when I emailed or texted him. Bottom line I would highly recommend Peter to anyone looking to improve their putting.”

Hole9Golf is a performance centre that has helped more than 1,000 golfers up their game. Through hands-on coaching and advanced technology, their experts can determine the ideal swing for your body.

They rely on equipment such as pro-level launch monitors and TrackMan 4 units to measure ball-flight data in real time. That means they can give you instant feedback with every move.

But to get to that point, you’ll have to go through a comprehensive assessment first. Their staff will review your range of motion and movement capacity to discover the utmost efficiency, power, and safety.

And once that’s all done, you get to decide which package to go with. We were actually pleasantly surprised at how many they offer, ranging from basic 1-hour sessions to intensive 50-hour performance bundles.

The only downside is that their facilities are essentially all simulators. Naturally, it’ll feel different compared to playing on an actual golf course.

Pros

  • More than 1,000 clients
  • Uses advanced pro-level equipment
  • Provides instant feedback
  • Comprehensive initial assessment
  • Offers a variety of packages

Cons

  • Only has simulators

Competitive and recreational golfers are sure to see improvement in their games

“Daylan and the crew at Hole9 have unparalleled knowledge of how to use the training aids and technology available to improve golfers of all levels. Their continued commitment to education and staying on top of the latest advancements in golf coaching technology is evident each and every day. Both competitive and recreational golfers are sure to see improvement in their games working with the PGA Pros at Hole9. Highly recommend.”

“A great program for youth golfers. Daylan is an excellent coach who genuinely cares about the kids he works with. He is dedicated, patient, and takes the time to understand each player’s strengths and areas for improvement. Since working with him, my son has shown noticeable progress in both skill and confidence. Hole 9 Golf provides an outstanding environment for learning and growth. It is professional yet relaxed and focused on helping young athletes reach their full potential. I highly recommend Daylan and his team.”

Every golfer in the country has likely already heard of The Links at Brunello. This facility has repeatedly been named as one of the best in Canada by organizations like Golf Digest, the Canadian Golf Magazine, and SCOREGolf.

It was created by world-renowned designer Thomas McBroom, who incorporated the grounds’ unique landscapes into each course. Not only is it breathtaking, but it also pushes players to adapt and hone their skills in the process.

However, it seems to be a bit neglected recently, with several complaints that some parts aren’t always well-maintained.

Nonetheless, this doesn’t affect any of the classes they offer, which include Junior and Adult Clinics and Summer Camp programs. These serve as an introduction for new students who wish to get into the sport.

We recommend the long-term golf lessons for players looking to refine their shots. Through customized coaching, clients can work on being consistent and overcoming weaknesses.

Pros

  • Award-winning facilities
  • Unique and challenging courses
  • Accepts clients of all ages and skill levels
  • Offers short-term and long-term classes

Cons

  • Some parts of the course aren’t always well-maintained

The staff and instructors were absolutely wonderful, patient, and kind

“The students in Phys Ed 10 & PAL 11 from Eastern Shore Consolidated School took a field trip to The Links at Brunello in early June. The staff and instructors were absolutely wonderful, patient and kind. The students and chaperones will never forget how they were introduced to the world of golf and pickle ball. See you next year!”

Impeccable practice facilities

“Great course, one of the best tracks in Nova Scotia. Has amazing fairways and very true greens. Impecable practice facilities, and great customer service from the minute you step on the property until you leave.”

Almost every weekend, you’ll find groups of people celebrating birthdays and milestones at Goodwood Family Golf. It’s a spacious course that’s well-maintained without feeling snobby.

For this reason, we think it’s a great place to get lessons for beginners. What’s even better is that you don’t have to attend sessions alone — you can book group classes with up to 3 friends.

The programs here are taught by members of PGA Canada, a.k.a. the country’s most prestigious organization for professional golfers. Their extensive training has given them the skills to handle players of all ages and abilities.

We especially like that they focus on perfecting the form. It might not seem that important at first, but mastering this will serve as a great foundation for the sport.

Now, unlike the instructors who have been described as friendly, other staff members might not be as kind. In fact, there have been reports that they’re occasionally rude.

Pros

  • Spacious and well-maintained courses
  • Ideal for beginners
  • Offers solo and group classes
  • PGA-certified instructors
  • Focused on perfecting the form

Cons

  • Reports of rude staff members

Happy to finally find a place like this where I can learn how to play golf

“Just about everything you need as a starter. Just drive in, pay, pick up and start playing. Great location, helpful staff, and very affordable. Plus you can meet and get a few tips from amateurs and experienced players who come just to practice. Happy to finally find a place like this where I can learn how to play golf.”

Took the time to teach me the perfect form to hit my shots

“I would give this place a 5 star rating without even thinking. The owner of this golf driving range Mrs Olive is a very kind hearted lady. I am a beginner in this sport and she took time to teach me the perfect form to hit my shots. The driving range is really well maintained and my favourite spot to come practice my shots. Will definitely come again, so I can get better at golf. Thank you Mrs Olive, you are a legend and a very kind hearted person.”
