We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Whenever we watch reruns of Friends, my cousins and I keep obsessing about Jennifer Aniston’s fit body. I’m especially amazed at her arms—they’re sculpted and toned without looking bulky. Turns out, she’s a self-proclaimed Pilates person.

Upon hearing that, I immediately decided to be one, too! But of course, I had to try a few places first before settling on a favorite hub.

I finally narrowed it down to a curated list of the best Pilates studios in Halifax. Check out my honest take on each spot below.

How much do Pilates sessions cost in Halifax?

Pilates sessions in Halifax typically range from $25 to $40 for a single drop class, depending on whether you are practicing on a mat or using a reformer.
If you want more personalized attention, private Pilates sessions in the city generally start at $90 and can go up to $120 per hour.

How We Chose the Best Pilates Studios in Halifax

Expertise – We selected studios with certified Pilates instructors who have strong backgrounds in anatomy and safe movement practices.
Class Variety – We picked places that provide a mix of reformer, mat, beginner, and advanced classes to suit different needs.
Equipment Quality – We highlighted studios with well-maintained reformers and modern equipment for a safe and effective workout.
Value for Money – We looked for spots that offer fair pricing and flexible packages.
Client Reviews – We favored places with consistently positive feedback and high ratings from real clients.

1. Shanti Hot Yoga Studio

Business Hours:

  • Mon – Sun: 6 AM–9:30 PM

Shanti Hot Yoga Studio started when Uriel decided to ditch the corporate grind in 2010 to follow her dream. Since then, it has become not only one of the best hot yoga studios in Halifax but also one of the top Pilates spots in the city!

I used their affordable Intro Pass ($39), which gave me access to unlimited classes for two weeks. You’d want to book in advance, though, since their slots fill up quickly.

My first session was Inferno Hot Pilates, and it was no joke. We followed the Tabata interval training method, with doable movements that still had our hearts pumping.

Hot Strength is also available—it’s just like Hot Pilates but with dumbbells and resistance bands, all provided in-studio.

What’s great is that both formats are heated between 90 and 95 degrees, so you find a much deeper stretch that you won’t get at a normal studio.

Pros

  • Over 16 years of experience
  • A mix of hot yoga and Pilates
  • Affordable Intro Pass
  • Offers Inferno Hot Pilates
  • Has Hot Strength sessions
  • Equipment available in the studio
  • Heated between 90 and 95 degrees

Cons

  • Slots fill up quickly

Hot Strength & Inferno Hot Pilates are two of my faves

“If you are looking to become a better version of you in the new year, Shanti Yoga is your place. So many classes to choose from. Jen has created such a welcoming space for all to practice. Hot strength plus and Inferno hot pilates are two of my faves. See you at Shanti!”

Inviting the community with the best teachers around

“Long-time Shanti patron who will continuously renew my annual membership. Inviting the community with the best teachers around. Jen has created a truly special place. Love the mix of classes from hot yoga to hot strength classes (which took me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible!).”

                                                       Frances Mitchell, Shantiyoga.studio

2. Rstudios Pilates+Yoga

Business Address: 2470 Maynard St

Website: http://www.rstudios.co/

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rstudiosns/

Contact Details: +1 902-912-0207

Business Hours:

  • Varies by class

Rstudios first launched in 2014 at an intimate, living room-style space. It has since expanded to five locations, making it more accessible to everyone.

I wanted to get their 14-day unlimited pass, but it was a bit expensive at $69. So, I opted for a BOGO studio drop-in pass instead.

Here, there are different Pilates classes available, depending on which area you want to target: Sculpt for the upper body, Body for the lower part, Core for the midsection, Fire for a complete full-body burn, and even Build as a foundational practice.

You don’t need to bring a Pilates mat—they’ll have one ready for you.

When I tried their Sculpt class, I found the pace solid, and I definitely worked up a good sweat. I just found the Pilates trainer to be a tad rude, which was a shame.

Pros

  • Over 12 years of experience
  • Has expanded to five locations
  • Offers a 14-day unlimited pass
  • Has BOGO studio drop-in passes
  • Offers five types of Pilates classes
  • Provides a Pilates mat for use

Cons

  • Slightly rude Pilates trainer

You definitely feel the burn after Pilates

“Absolutely love R Studios at Maynard! The Tower Class is amazing! Love the instructors, especially Angela, Nicola, and Annette. You definitely feel the burn after Pilates or Barre. I also love the simple touches like the scented oil after yoga, such a thoughtful way to end a great class.”

The prettiest Pilates studio I’ve been to

“I’m so glad I found this studio! The space is beautiful (maybe the prettiest Pilates studio I’ve been to), and the instructors keep the workouts tough but fun. I was worried I’d feel intimidated in a new studio, but I’ve felt completely at home.”

3. The Reformer Room

True to its name, The Reformer Room uses the reformer to create a low-impact and low-stress workout that’s still incredibly strengthening.

They offer two main types of Pilates classes. Reformer Pilates focuses on traditional precision and alignment, while Reformer Fitness offers a more high-energy workout.

The studio also has a fantastic option called TRR MIX, inspired by both Pilates and Barre; it’s designed to sculpt and energize your entire body.

To get my foot in the door, I snagged a First Class pass (one class with a three-month expiry) for only $20. Then, I attended a Reformer Fitness session, where I got to play around with fun props like bands and balls.

I really enjoyed my session in their lovely studio, which even has a water view!

However, their pricing felt a bit steep—while others offer unlimited access with their memberships, this spot limits your sessions to 4, 8, or 12 classes per month.

Pros

  • Offers traditional Reformer Pilates sessions
  • Has high-energy Reformer Fitness sessions
  • Hosts a fusion class, TRR MIX
  • Lovely studio with a view
  • Offers a First Class pass

Cons

  • Pricey

The instructors are so kind and qualified

“This studio is amazing, the view is incredible, and it adds such a calmness and relaxation to a Pilates reformer/mat class. The instructors are so kind and qualified. I highly recommend!!”

                                                                   Vicky Phan, Google Review

The location is looking right on the water!

“Had an amazing experience at The Reformer Room with Anna. She really took her time with each one of us to make sure we were all supported in all the different positions throughout the class. The reformer fitness option is a great option to try for anyone looking to use the reformer a bit differently than typical Pilates, but there are options for whatever you’re looking for. The location is also a major bonus, looking right on the water! Loved the space and highly recommend!”

Business Hours:

  • Mon – Thurs: 9 AM–8 PM
  • Fri – Sun: 9 AM–12 PM

The Space uses a modern approach to the original work of Joseph Pilates, taught by experienced Stott Pilates-certified instructors.

Armed with my $22 First Class pass, I stepped into the studio and was blown away by their full range of professional Pilates equipment. Unlike other spots that focus only on a couple, they offer mats, reformers, Cadillacs, chairs, barres, the works!

Sure, the layout looks a tad chaotic, but this is a great option for those who get bored using only one piece of equipment.

They have a cozy studio for private sessions, but I opted for a small group class. I loved that we were only six in the group since the instructor was able to provide direct corrections for each of us.

As a bonus, they have a treatment space for massage therapy at the back—a brilliant way to reward yourself after a heavy session.

Pros

  • STOTT PILATES-certified instructors
  • $22 First Class pass available
  • Full range of pro Pilates equipment
  • Offers small group and private sessions
  • Has a treatment space for massage therapy

Cons

  • The layout looks a bit messy

Very qualified, dedicated instructors

“Very qualified, dedicated instructors who always give modifications when needed. A cheerful, positive environment.”

                                                         Anne Henderson, Google Review

Workouts are both challenging and rewarding

“I absolutely love this Pilates Reformer class on Queen Pool Road! The small group size (just 6 people) makes such a difference—it’s great to have the coach’s full attention for corrections and guidance. The workouts are both challenging and rewarding, and I already feel stronger and more flexible. Plus, Jana, the owner, is fantastic—she manages everything so well and creates a welcoming, supportive environment. Highly recommend!”

5. Synergy Physiotherapy + Pilates

Business Hours:

  • Mon – Thurs: 8 AM–8:30 PM
  • Friday: 8 AM–6 PM

As you might have already guessed, Synergy Physiotherapy + Pilates is not a traditional, trendy workout studio, but rather, a clinical wellness hub.

Their PhysioPilates program is taught by a physiotherapy team led by Martha Purdy, a Registered Physiotherapist and a Certified Stott Pilates Teacher. Her clinic’s version of Pilates is geared to improve your flexibility, posture, and core.

What’s cool is that I was able to book and bill a personalized one-on-one PhysioPilates session to my insurance as a physiotherapy treatment. Group classes can also be billed as group physiotherapy.

Just keep in mind that if your insurance doesn’t cover physiotherapy, their out-of-pocket fees are a bit steep.

During my session, I felt completely at ease—there’s something so reassuring about learning Pilates with an actual physiotherapist.

They told me that if I were busy, virtual livestream options are available, too.

Pros

  • Has a PhysioPilates program
  • Sessions led by Registered Physiotherapists
  • Has Certified Stott Pilates Teachers
  • Offers group, private, and virtual options
  • Can be billed as physiotherapy (if covered)

Cons

  • Pricey out-of-pocket fees

Martha‘s Pilates class is taught with a great sense of fun

“Whether participating in a Pilates class or receiving a treatment, I am always grateful for the people who provide them. Martha‘s Pilates class is taught with a great sense of fun. The camaraderie is something to look forward to. Today I had a treatment from Francesca. Her compassion made me feel understood and encouraged. All the staff are dedicated to supporting their clients. They make the world a better place.”

Helped me make big strength and balance improvements

“Physio Pilates at Synergy has helped me make big strength improvements and balance improvements that translate to everyday vitality. Having a caring Physiotherapist (I have taken semester group classes from Jenna, Jalisa, and Francesca) demonstrating and checking form is invaluable. From the initial one on one Physio Pilates assessment, they make sure you get in the correct level to start. It is a very friendly and welcoming yet professional environment. Add in the option to join any class via Zoom, and you have optimal timing flexibility.”
