How We Reviewed

Local Expertise: We verified that each firm has a physical office in Halifax and a proven track record in Nova Scotia property law. This ensures they intimately understand the municipal zoning rules and regional tax requirements.
Service Transparency: We assessed whether firms outline their legal services and provide accessible contact methods for consultations. A good legal team shouldn’t hide their primary fee structures or make it difficult to get initial answers.
Professional Credentials: We ensured that all listed lawyers are members in good standing with the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society (NSBS). This membership ensures that they practice law ethically and hold the necessary licenses.
Client Communication: We looked for firms that offer responsive support to address urgent closing deadlines and transaction questions. Quick replies to emails and calls keep things moving forward without delays.
Reviews and Reputation: We checked for consistently high ratings from real clients on Google, Yelp, and local sources. Prioritizing recent client feedback helps highlight firms that genuinely deliver on their promises.

Highly recommend

My wife and I recently purchased our first home with Mick as our lawyer, and could not recommend him enough. He is efficient, extremely responsive, and does great work. He took the time to explain each part of the home buying process with us, and advocated on our behalf in negotiations. Highly recommend Mick and his team.

Repeatedly impressed

As my partner and I set out to purchase our first home, we could not have possibly found anyone better to keep things in check than Mick and Kelly, at Arcus Legal. We were repeatedly impressed at the responsiveness and thorough information presented. The value in having a solid legal team to guide you through the real estate world is immense, and Mick is at the top in the HRM – no question. Professional, prompt, and transparent.

Burton Law gives solid legal guidance when dealing with commercial real estate acquisitions, which involve plenty of headache-inducing steps.

The team has the expertise to untangle messy zoning issues since they specialize in real estate transactions.

Another thing they focus on is providing fast, accessible service, so you can easily meet them on your terms. They’re a breeze to talk to, even when dealing with complex transactions.

Their lawyer, David Burton, is easy to reach online, so there’s no need to visit the office at all times. If you want a dependable property lawyer who replies to emails quickly during the workweek, Burton delivers.

That said, this is a firm primarily run by one lawyer who attends to everything. Sadly, this can affect his availability when he’s snowed under.

  • Fast responses on weekdays
  • Handles complex zoning issues
  • Specializes in property law
  • Easy to talk to

Cons

  • Solo lawyer can affect availability

Beyond his expertise, he is genuinely an incredible person to work with — thoughtful, approachable, and always going above and beyond. Truly, the best lawyer you could ask for! Thank you so much David, it was a pleasure working with you!!!

Fantastic to work with

David Burton was fantastic to work with on my Halifax property purchase while I was still in London, Ontario. He guided me through the entire process, explained everything clearly, and took the stress out of what could have been a complicated experience. Very professional, responsive, and an all-around nice guy. Highly recommend!

Their team ensures all existing mortgages are properly discharged before you hand over the keys. All this localized knowledge gives you peace of mind during a stressful sale.

Plus, they stick to client-centred solutions, ensuring every decision aligns with your goals, budget, and timeline.

I like that since they aren’t a massive firm, every lawyer is easily accessible to each client.

On the downside, their Windsor Street office has limited parking, so you might spend extra time looking for a spot before your meeting.

Very kind, personable

Best real estate lawyer we have ever used. Peter is very kind and personable. We had a number of stressful issues pop up during our transaction and Peter went above and beyond offering advice and reassurance. He even called just to check in and see how we were doing. His paralegal Pam is pleasure to deal with too!

Highly recommend

Doug was fantastic in assisting us with the purchase of our first home. He was always on top on the communications with us and making sure we understood everything we were signing. I highly recommend Doug to anyone seeking legal assistance when buying a home.

If you’re going through a tricky commercial lease, their expertise will be valuable. They offer full-service property solutions for corporate clients, handling everything from land acquisitions to complex zoning compliance.

Plus, they can easily spot hidden liabilities in your contracts, saving you from expensive surprises down the road. Most clients praised their attention to detail that avoided delays.

But because they regularly represent major corporate clients, their overall legal fees might sit at the higher end of the spectrum for individual clients.

  • Fast grasp of complex leases
  • Spots hidden contract liabilities
  • Handles large land acquisitions

Cons

  • Higher overall legal fees

Customer Reviews

Highly recommend

Anindo was instrumental in helping us close on our home. Highly professional, incredibly responsive, and expert at keeping the process moving forward without any hiccups. I would highly recommend Anindo to anyone looking for top-tier support when buying or selling a home. Thank you for a job well done!

Amazing

David was a great guy to deal with our first house purchase of our lives. From start to the end everything was thoroughly but, concisely explained and clarified. A lot of documents were taken care of by him and I can only imagine the struggle to do the same by ourselves – mortgage, deeds, fees, you name it! Also great handling with COVID-19 worst wave in NS with a lot of options when signing was needed. We have 2 young children and he was able to sort this as well as all the other documents, amazing!

Fellows Law, led by Noel Fellows, is where you can get a barrister and solicitor who knows the ins and outs of property transactions. He and his staff focus on keeping property transactions simple, so you never feel confused about the paperwork you sign.

They always provide clear, easy-to-understand advice that cuts straight through the dense legal jargon. Plus, they work efficiently and effectively, making sure that deed transfers happen quickly.

You get an approachable property lawyer who’ll patiently answer your questions, ensuring the entire estate transfer stays on track.

One drawback is that their small team handles a wide mix of practice areas, so they might not always be instantly available for sudden visits.

  • Fast deed transfer processing
  • Approachable and patient staff
  • Lawyer is a barrister and solicitor

Cons

  • Small team may get busy quickly
