We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Halifax winters can leave your summer glow feeling like a distant memory. We want to believe that a little bronze doesn’t have to come with a boarding pass!

Choosing the best tanning salon in Halifax starts with knowing your options. That’s why we’ve rounded up local spots offering UV tanning, spray tans, or both.

(Fancy making it a full beauty day? Pair your visit with awaxing salon in Halifax, scheduling your wax before your spray tan!)

How much does it cost to visit a tanning salon in Halifax?

A single UV tanning session in Halifax costs $15 to 18 CAD. A custom spray tan costs $40 to 75 CAD per session.

How We Reviewed

Cleanliness & Maintenance: We prioritized clean equipment and regular upkeep. Grime shouldn’t be part of your glow.
Staff Knowledge & Compliance: We looked for knowledgeable staff who explain exposure limits and follow regulations. UV tanning isn’t risk-free, so clear guidance matters.
Sunless Options & Precision: We favoured spray booths and custom applications with shade choices. Your bronze shouldn’t be one-size-fits-all.
Convenient Locations: We considered salons across Halifax and nearby areas. Getting there shouldn’t require an expedition.

1. Sunswirl Laser and Esthetics

Website

Address: 644 Portland St., Unit 13A, Dartmouth

Contact: (902) 706-4971

Hours: (By appointment) Sunday, 3:30 PM – 8 PM | Monday, 9 AM – 8 PM | Tuesday, 9 AM – 8: PM | Wednesday, 1 PM – 8 PM | Thursday, noon – 7 PM | Friday, 9 AM – 8 PM | Saturday, 9 AM – 8 PM

A holiday glow doesn’t have to involve airport queues. Sunswirl Laser and Esthetics in Dartmouth offers UV and spray tanning, giving you a choice of how to get your bronze.

Its UV equipment includes lie-down beds and stand-up options. For colour without UV exposure, the salon offers a Mystic HD spray booth.

There’s a useful distinction between the two services. Spray tanning adds colour without UV rays, while UV tanning carries health risks regardless of the equipment used.

We like that the team provides shade consultations and preparation advice before spray tanning. That guidance helps you choose your colour and arrive ready, rather than winging your beauty appointment.

That said, Sunswirl operates by appointment only. Book ahead, because a spontaneous stop for a glow isn’t on the menu!

Pros

  • Lie-down and stand-up UV tanning options
  • Mystic HD spray booth for sunless colour
  • Shade consultations and spray tan preparation advice

Cons

  • Appointment-only service; no spontaneous walk-ins

Exceptional service

The service I received was exceptional. Richard is always there to help with any questions I may have. He keeps the beds well sanitized, and the rooms are clean. He has a well-stocked supply of tanning products. I have been going here for a few years now and look forward to many more. This location is in Dartmouth,  Nova Scotia, on Portland Street

Highly recommend

Recently found this salon, and have been so impressed! It is absolutely immaculate. I’ve used two different UV tanning beds (stand up and lay down), and both the rooms and beds are spotless. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, and always available if you have questions. I highly recommend Sunswirl!

2. Helen’s Family Barber Shop & Tanning

helen-s-family-barber-shop-tanning

Website

Address: 3111 Kempt Road Unit 5

Contact: 1-902-455-5775

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 AM–7 PM | Saturday, 9 AM–5 PM

Haircuts and tanning make an unusual double act, but Helen’s brings both to Kempt Road. It’s a handy option if your beauty errands could use fewer stops.

The shop lists single tanning sessions at $10, keeping the starting spend straightforward. You don’t have to buy a bundle just to give it a try!

For repeat visits, five sessions cost $45, saving $5 against individual purchases. That’s a modest 10% discount, rather than a reason to grumble.

The larger packages offer better value per session. You’ll pay $79 for ten tans plus one free, or $99 for fifteen plus two free.

Still, Sundays are off the table, and Saturday hours finish at 5 PM. Weekday opening until 7 PM gives you more room to fit a visit around work.

Pros

  • Hair services and tanning in one location
  • Single tanning sessions priced at $10
  • Discounted packages with bonus sessions on larger bundles
  • Open until 7 PM on weekdays

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays
  • Saturday hours end at 5 PM

3. Tan Fx Tanning Studio & Boutique

tan-fx-tanning-studio-boutique

Website

Address: 100 Main Street, Dartmouth

Contact: [email protected]

Hours: Monday, 9:30 AM – 6 PM | Tuesday, 9:30 AM – 6 PM | Wednesday, 9:30 AM – 6 PM | Thursday, 9:30 AM – 6 PM | Friday, 9:30 AM – 6 PM | Saturday, 9:30 AM – 3 PM (spray tanning requires an appointment)

Tan Fx in Dartmouth gives you more choices than simply lying down and hoping for holiday colour. Its lineup includes regular UV beds, red-light-plus-UV beds, and stand-up units.

The regular lie-down beds feature spacious, curved acrylics and adjustable cooling ventilation. The turbo stand-up unit has a high-powered fan, though cooling doesn’t remove UV-related health risks.

Prefer your bronze without UV exposure? Its airbrush spray tans are tailored to your skin tone, desired shade, and event timing.

The staff even provide preparation and aftercare guidance to help you plan beyond the appointment itself. And we like that UV sessions are walk-in, making those visits easier to fit around your day.

That said, spray tans require advance booking. The studio’s closed on Sundays and shuts at 3 PM on Saturdays, so weekend glow plans need a little organization.

Pros

  • Lie-down and stand-up UV tanning options
  • Adjustable ventilation in regular lie-down beds
  • Custom airbrush spray tans with shade guidance
  • Spray tan preparation and aftercare advice
  • Walk-in UV sessions

Cons

  • Spray tans require an appointment
  • Closed on Sundays
  • Saturday hours end at 3 PM

4. allTan Everything Spray Tan

alltan-everything-spray-tan

Website

Address: 5511 Bloomfield St

Contact: (902) 266-4553

Hours: Monday, 2 PM–8 PM | Tuesday–Thursday, noon–8 PM | Friday, noon–7 PM | Sunday, 2 PM–7 PM

allTan Everything on Bloomfield Street offers custom sunless tans tailored to your skin tone and preferred shade.

Sessions begin with a skin-conditioning primer and use a custom-blended tanning solution. A finishing powder helps reduce that sticky feeling, so getting dressed afterwards feels less like a balancing act.

A standard spray tan costs $60, including taxes, whatever shade you choose. Bring a friend and the listed price is $110 for both of you!

We love that preparation and aftercare instructions arrive with your booking confirmation. And same-day appointment requests are handled by text, while a waitlist offers another route when your preferred slot isn’t available.

The trade-off is that Saturdays are off the calendar, and there’s no morning opening. Afternoon and evening hours, including Sundays, give you other ways to fit your glow around your plans.

Pros

  • Custom-blended sunless tans tailored to your preferred shade
  • Skin-conditioning primer and finishing powder
  • $60 standard tans, including taxes
  • $110 bring-a-friend option for two people

Incredibly professional service

Chris is an absolute spray tan goddess! I’ll admit, I was a little nervous at first after reading online that the setup was in an apartment and that Chris was male, so I brought two friends along. But the experience was incredibly professional from start to finish. The space was clean, comfortable, and welcoming, and Chris made us feel completely at ease. The tan itself turned out flawless — perfectly even, with a natural glow that lasted for days. I honestly can’t recommend him enough! I’ll be back soon!

The tan looks amazing

Just finished my second tan with Chris; he’s super nice. Even though you’re standing there basically naked I felt very comfortable. I’ve never done spray tans or at home self tanner. Chris is very professional and has a great personality. The tan looks amazing, it’s sad that it only lasts a week, but for that week, your body looks flawless

5. Bare Sunless Tans

bare-sunless-tans

Website

Address: 3682 Basinview Dr

Contact: (902) 237-8267 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday, 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM | Tuesday, 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM | Wednesday, 10:30 AM – 8 PM | Thursday, 10:30 AM – 8 PM | Friday, 10:30 AM – 6:30 PM

Bare Sunless Tans in Halifax’s North End takes the guesswork out of choosing your bronze. First-time visits include a consultation covering your lifestyle, skin tone, and preferred shade.

Each tan starts with a hydration prep spray and finishes with drying powder. You’ll get guidance on preparation and aftercare, because keeping your glow takes more than crossing your fingers.

For a tan plus home-care products, The Newbie and The Glowing Goddess bundles offer different combinations. Choose according to what you’ll use, rather than which name sounds more fabulous.

The hand-applied full-body spray tan costs $60, with rapid-rinse and traditional formulas available. Rapid options let you rinse sooner, though the colour still needs time to develop.

One thing to plan around is the weekend closure. Wednesday and Thursday opening until 8 PM gives you the most room for an after-work visit.

Pros

  • First-time consultations tailored to lifestyle, skin tone and shade preferences
  • Hand-applied spray tans with rapid-rinse or traditional formulas
  • Hydration prep spray and finishing powder included
  • Preparation and aftercare guidance
  • Spray-tan bundles with home-care products
  • Open until 8 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays

Cons

  • Closed on Saturdays and Sundays
  • Earlier closing on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays

Impressed

I had the pleasure of visiting Jenn for the first time for a spray tan, and to say I was impressed is an understatement. She was so thorough in what to do and not to do before and after my tan. I felt so comfortable right from the minute I walked in. I’m feeling so much better with my tan and cannot wait to get another one 🙂
