Charlotte CampbellYour home gym deserves better than a treadmill moonlighting as a clothes rack. The best fitness equipment in Halifax can help put that floor space to work.
Whether you’re after a squat rack or compact cardio machine, start with what you’ll actually use. Personal trainers can always help you match your gear to your goals.
You don’t need to squeeze an entire gym into the spare room, either. Let’s explore where to shop for a setup that fits your space and budget.

Address: 26 Bancroft Drive, Dartmouth
Contact: (902) 407-8688
Hours: Monday – Saturday, 10 AM – 5 PM
Spartan Fitness Equipment gives your home gym ambitions somewhere to stretch their legs. Its Dartmouth showroom carries cardio machines, strength equipment and free weights for home and commercial setups.
You can test treadmills, bikes and strength machines before handing over your floor space. That’s useful when a machine looks compact online but has other ideas in person.
There are also delivery and assembly services that take some heavy lifting off your to-do list. Plus, equipment servicing and manufacturer warranty support help with maintenance after the setup’s complete.
That said, its retail policy lists 15% restocking fees within 15 days and 25% on accepted returns afterwards.
Credit card refunds on purchases over CAD $1,000 incur a further 2% charge, and the showroom’s closed on Sundays.

Pleasant, friendly
I bought a VO3 Elliptical Machine at the Dartmouth location a couple of months ago. I love the machine and use it almost every day. The sales associate that helped me was Drew Lucas. He was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable, pleasant and friendly. He also provided excellent customer service after the sale. My machine needed an adjustment. Drew followed up really quickly and got the small issue fixed. I would definitely buy exercise equipment at Spartans.

2. Fitness Depot Atlantic
Address: 75 Akerley Blvd #16, Dartmouth
Contact: (902) 481-0888
Hours: Monday – Friday, 10 AM – 6 PM | Saturday, 10 AM – 5 PM
A home gym shopping list can grow faster than your biceps. Fitness Depot Atlantic covers plenty of ground, with a catalogue spanning treadmills, power racks, free weights and training accessories.
Its range suits shoppers building a strength station or adding a little cardio to the spare room. Benches, kettlebells and resistance bands give smaller setups some options too.
Flooring and storage options round out the catalogue, because loose dumbbells shouldn’t become an obstacle course.
The Dartmouth store offers a local stop for browsing fitness equipment and discussing your plans with staff.
Still, the store’s closed Sundays and shuts at 6 PM on weekdays. Saturday shopping ends at 5 PM, so late workers and Sunday browsers will need another window.

3. Fitness Factory Express (The Treadmill Factory)
Address: 75 Akerley Blvd 16 a, Dartmouth
Contact: 902-481-0898
Hours: Monday-Saturday, 10 AM – 6 PM
Your cardio shopping shouldn’t leave you more breathless than the workout. Fitness Factory Express brings treadmills, ellipticals, exercise bikes and rowers to its Dartmouth showroom.
Part of The Treadmill Factory family, it caters to home gyms and commercial facilities. Power racks, benches and free weights give strength shoppers plenty to browse beyond the running belt.
You can try showroom equipment and compare models with staff before committing precious floor space. There’s also delivery, assembly and after-purchase support to help make a bigger setup less of a logistical workout.
The trade-off is that Flexiti financing applies to orders over CAD $450 and requires credit approval.
Smaller accessory purchases won’t meet that threshold, so payment plans aren’t an option for every shopping list.

Massive inventory
Incredible service from Chris Tremblay during my visit to Fitness Factory today. He’s knowledgeable about everything “fitness” and definitely puts the customer’s needs first. If you are in the market to upgrade your home gym or just start a new fitness journey…give Chris and Fitness Factory a try. They are local and have a massive inventory.

Definitely not my last purchase
I ordered an entire home gym, and Chris ordered quickly, and it arrived exactly when Chris said it would. Pickup was quick and easy, and Chris double-checked to make sure I had everything and that I was happy. I can’t say enough good stuff about Chris and the guys in the store! They have all been great. Definitely not my last purchase from Chris at Fitness Factory Express. Thank you for everything!

4. Canadian Tire
Address: 16 Dentith Road, South Centre
Contact: 902-477-5608
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 7:30 PM | Saturday, 8 AM – 6 PM | Sunday, 10 AM – 5 PM
A fitness shopping trip doesn’t always need to become a cross-town expedition. Canadian Tire in Spryfield offers a neighbourhood stop where workout shopping can share the list with household errands.
The chain’s fitness range includes adjustable dumbbells, exercise mats, resistance bands and stationary bikes. That gives you options for stretching, strength training and home cardio, with selection depending on local availability.
We like that this branch lists curbside pickup and local delivery among its services. Weekday shopping runs until 7:30 PM, too, giving your after-work plans a little breathing room.
However, Sunday hours run from 10 AM to 5 PM. You’ll need another day for an early start or evening browse, so don’t let that shopping list linger too long.

A lot of good specials
There were a lot of good specials and, because we had just purchased a home in the area, I came back with my wife, and we bought pretty much everything we needed to set up our kitchen at this one store (cutlery, knives, dinnerware, pots, pans, coffee maker, toaster oven…you name it, we probably bought it!) as well as a vacuum cleaner, cleaning supplies, etc. We even bought a 4K TV (amazing price), bar stools and on our last trip to the store, a NordicTrack rowing machine.

Your garage gym ambitions don’t have to stop at the provincial border. Ontario-based AKFIT serves Halifax shoppers online, with shipping throughout Nova Scotia.

Halifax shoppers can’t test equipment or collect orders locally, and its local installation services only cover Greater Sudbury.

Excellent selection
They seem to offer an excellent selection. Was very impressed and grateful for their impartial review of the three different major types of rowing machines! Super helpful, and it saved me from the expense of choosing poorly and wasting considerable money on a machine that won’t work for my home gym!

Very impressed
Bought an indoor rower and was very impressed with the service. Ryan greeted me at the door as soon as I walked in and was super knowledgeable and was glad to show me around the store and answer all my questions. No pressure to upsell or anything like that, even showed me less expensive alternatives. I look forward to going back there for any future home gym equipment purchases.
