5 Best Bike Shops in Halifax to Upgrade Your Next Ride

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Riding around Halifax is a lot easier when your bike’s in good shape, especially with all the hills and coastal routes in Nova Scotia.

I found that whether I’m heading to work or just going out for a weekend ride on a bike trail, a nearby bike shop really helps keep things simple.

The cycling scene here is pretty active, so there are plenty of shops for repairs and gear. However, not all of them offer the same service, so it can take a bit to pick the right one. Check out the list below to see which shops stand out.

How much does bike service and sales cost in Halifax?

Bike servicing and purchases in Halifax typically range from $5 for minor adjustments to $850+ for premium overhauls. New bikes can cost anywhere from $470 to over $6,500, depending on type and performance level.

Service or Bike TypePrice Range
Minor Adjustments & Labor$5 – $35
Standard Tune-ups$70 – $200
Premium Overhauls$280 – $850+
Commuter & Hybrid Bikes$550 – $1,000
Mountain Bikes$470 – $5,000+
Gravel & Road Bikes$1,800 – $6,500+

How I Reviewed

Mechanical Skills: I assessed the mechanics’ skills at each shop. They should be able to handle small fixes as well as more complex bike repairs without trouble.
Bike and Gear Selection: I looked at how many bikes, parts, and accessories each shop has. A good shop should have options for casual riders, commuters, and trail riders.
Repair Speed: I also checked how fast each shop can get your bike fixed and ready again. Quick service matters, especially when you don’t want to miss riding time.
Local Community Support: I saw how each shop connects with local riders. Shops that join events or support group rides feel more open and welcoming, especially for beginners.

On top of that, they do year-round repairs on a walk-in basis, so you don’t need an appointment. And I love that they have friendly staff who share local route tips, which is helpful for new riders.

Keep in mind there’s a storage fee if your bike stays there too long, and e-bikes have an extra service charge.

Pros

  • Fully equipped bike rentals

Long Alley has just the right ones everyday cycling people need. You walk in and you feel like you’re just walking into your own garage bikeshop. You feel at home. Right away. Friendly owners and staff. Very prompt service. And again, world-class service.

They have a showroom packed with bikes and gear. And from what I’ve seen, they offer professional bike fitting to make your ride more comfortable.

Their repair team works on almost any bike and aims for a 48-hour turnaround, which is pretty fast. Also, the staff seems very experienced, so you feel supported when choosing.

However, parts aren’t included in service pricing, and there’s a small labor surcharge.

Came here for a bike fit with Alejandro included with my new bike. He was an extremely knowledgeable individual who fit me right up to my new bike. The shop was very clean and organized. Cyclesmith is the place to go! Customer service unlike anywhere else

Giant Bicycle Halifax on Bedford Hwy stands out as a focused bike shop where everything centers on their own brand.

They carry Liv bikes designed for women, which make riding feel more comfortable and better-fitting. They also have a trade-up program for kids, so upgrading as they grow doesn’t feel stressful.

The showroom is clean and easy to navigate, which helps when comparing bikes. On top of that, financing options are available if you’re planning a bigger purchase.

But they only sell Giant and related brands, so there aren’t many other options. They also don’t repair e-bike electronics from other brands, which might be inconvenient.

Pros

  • Women-focused bike designs
  • Kids trade-up program
  • Financing options
  • Modern showroom

Cons

  • Only one brand available
  • No third-party e-bike electronics repair

Reliable Bike Service with Extra Attention to Detail

Recently had my bike serviced here. Mostly just a tune up after a winter of commuting on it. Amazing service overall. The tech who did the service did an amazing job, and even fixed a few little cosmetic things that likely nobody other than me would have noticed. I originally purchased my bike here and had great service at that time, and every time I have been in since. Will happily be returning!

Honest Support for Long-Distance Riders

I crossed Canada from west to east and needed new tires for the onward journey. I was able to easily order through them and pick up the tires when I arrived in Halifax. Later, I also went there to replace the bottom bracket. They checked it and assured me that the bottom bracket was still fine (after 51,000 km, wow!). Although they had removed and reinstalled it, they didn’t want to charge me for their work. Very honest and fair staff!!!

4. Halifax Cycles Inc.

Website: https://halifaxcycles.com/

Address: 3600 Kempt Rd.

Contact: (902) 407 4222 | [email protected]

Hours: Tue-Fri: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM | Sat: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Halifax Cycles Inc. on Kempt Rd stands out as more of a friendly community hub than a regular bike shop. From what I’ve noticed, they really focus on bringing cyclists together through group rides and workshops, which makes it less intimidating for beginners.

The staff also explains things in a simple, patient way, so it’s easy to follow even if you’re new. Also, they let you try out cargo e-bike models for a few days, which helps you see how they work in everyday situations.

However, their repair services mostly cover the brands they sell. If you bring in a niche or off-brand bike, your options might be limited.

Pros

  • Community-focused group rides and workshops
  • Cargo e-bike trial program
  • Patient, beginner-friendly staff
  • Financing options available

Cons

  • Limited repair support for off-brand bikes

Patient Support for a Big E-Bike Purchase

Just purchased a cargo e-bike, and I’m so glad I decided to go with Halifax cycles! The whole staff was super patient, and allowed me to borrow the bike for a few days to really get a feel for it before this big commitment. They are all very knowledgable, helpful and accommodating, and I’m very happy to count of them for the future. Thanks again!

Friendly Service That Brings Older Bikes Back to Life

These guys are great!! I brought in my neglected 2002 Kona Blast into the shop, and the guys made it run just like new. Not only are they very knowledgeable when it comes to bikes, they’re also very friendly and easy to deal with. I’d recommend Halifax Cycles Inc. to anyone who either needs a new bike, or their current one serviced.

5. Dal&King’s Bike Centre

Website: https://www.dalbikecentre.ca/

Address: 1 Alumni Crescent

Contact: (902) 494 8345 | [email protected]

Hours: Mon: 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM | Wed: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM | Tue, Thu, Fri: 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Dal&King’s Bike Centre on Alumni Crescent comes across as more of a learning space than a typical bike shop.

I love their DIY setup, where student mechanics guide you instead of just fixing everything for you. That actually helps you learn basic repair skills over time.

They also have a reCYCLE program that refurbishes old bikes and parts and sells them at a lower cost, making cycling more affordable. Plus, they offer free week-long rentals and accessible tricycle options.

But most of the benefits are just for students and staff, so not everyone can use them. Their hours can also change during the semester, so it’s a good idea to check before you go.

Pros

  • Affordable refurbished bike program
  • Hands-on DIY learning support
  • Free weekly rentals (campus users)
  • Accessibility tricycle options

Cons

  • Student and staff restrictions on benefits
  • Semester-based schedule changes

Affordable Bike Access for Students

This is a University recreational facility to enable Dal students to go cycling at a low cost. There are multiple fixing tools to DIY your desirable bikes. The bike center could sell students cheap kits if you meet the one fitting in your bike. In addition, it’s fine for Dal or King’s students to go cycling with peers if they don’t have a ready bike on Campus. There are multiple options waiting here to lend you for free. Overall, it’s convenient for students to access the bike facilities in semesters.

Professional Flat Tire Repair with Extra Care

I got a flat tire with my e-bike and came here to repiar. Aadhith is the best and most professional technician here. He helped me changed the tube and even checked and fixed all the other parts for free. I feel like my bike is brand new now.
